2020 on Fire

Happy New Year! Are you ready to set 2020 on fire?! I am so excited to leave 2019 in the dust and start anew.

The naysayers will probably tell you that there’s nothing special about the new year. That we’ll create resolutions that we won’t commit to. That we’ll set goals that we won’t achieve. That we’ll talk a good game but won’t back it up. Well, you know what I have to say to that?

You don’t need that negativity, Sis.

Kindly remove yourself from all things and/or people that no longer serve you. Block any and all energy that doesn’t want to see you grow and thrive in your personal lives, your relationships, your careers, your businesses and future businesses. The new year is a symbol of new beginnings and fresh starts. It’s all about a mindset, a mindset of positivity, determination, inspiration, motivation. . . I can go on, but I know y’all get the point.

I feel so rejuvenated, and it’s such an awesome feeling. The work I’ve done to heal and restore my mind has put me at peace allowing my purpose to finally take shape. I must admit that this revived energy flowing through my veins couldn’t have come at a better time. In fact, timing is everything! Now, let me tell you why.

I bought former First Lady Michelle Obama’s book when it was released early last year. I started reading it during my lunch breaks, but I started a new job shortly after purchasing it and found myself working through lunch with no time to read at work or at home. I had only gotten through the first few chapters and hadn’t picked up the book since. It’s been sitting on my nightstand for months collecting dust until “randomly” last month, I decided to pick it back up. I picked up right as Michelle was explaining how she envied President Barack Obama for following his passion and regretted not following hers; instead, she became a lawyer. It didn’t make her happy, but it was expected and safe.

I haven’t picked up that book since that day, but just those few pages I read spoke to my soul and instantly my wheels began to turn. I, too, followed a safe and expected career path that doesn’t get me excited to wake up every morning. 2019 has taught me that happiness and sound mental health is more important than a title or a salary. I’ve always wanted to be an editor for a small publishing company. I used to correct the errors in the books I read that were typically written by unknown Black authors. Two years into my business degree, I knew I was making a mistake by not following my heart and getting that English degree, but I was already in too deep. In one of my previous HR roles, I had to edit performance management documents, and it was literally the highlight of my day. Until now, the fear of following a non-traditional path had never seemed like an option for me.

I am a strong believer of everything happens for reason. I didn’t just decide to pick up that book by chance. Those pages were called to me and ignited something in me. The entrepreneurial spark lingering in the back of mind has finally been lit into a roaring flame. I feel absolutely inspired to pursue my passions and turn my hobbies into my business and now, I’m gearing up to set 2020 on fire, y’all!

So, let’s talk.

If you’re like me, then your goals are already set, plans are in motion, and you’re already focused on the results. Slow down! You got this girl, but there’s no need rush. Patience is a virtue. I’m still learning that, too. I can also tell you from experience that when you’re moving too fast, you’ll miss something. Take the time to nurture your projects until you’re sure they’re ready.

Listen. Our time is now, but we have to remember to be intentional in everything we do going forward. Whether it’s to lose weight, find more time for yourself, change careers, start or expand your business, whatever you want to accomplish this year big or small is likely within reach. If you haven’t already done so, write down your goals and plans. Be specific and realistic. Putting it on paper gives you clear direction and creates a binding contract between you and yourself. Remember to be flexible! Life happens, and there will be some curveballs that will affect your plans. But don’t let that stop you from continuing your path. You’ve got this!
I’m so excited for what you are about to bring this year! I, myself, have some exciting things that I’m working on and although I’m not ready to share just yet, I look forward to giving you all the details soon. So, stay tuned!
Now, I’ll ask again, are you ready to set 2020 on fire like the bosses you are?!

💜 Tiarra
